Lou Ward's Thanksgiving Season initiative combines five original songs, practical activities and recognition through a Las Vegas mayoral proclamation.

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 3, 2026 — San Diego-based songwriter and performer Lou Ward is inviting individuals, families, schools and community organizations to participate in the 1,000 Acts of Gratitude Challenge throughout November. The challenge is part of The Thanksgiving Season, an initiative Ward created to extend Thanksgiving's focus on gratitude, connection and service beyond a single day.

The challenge encourages participants to work toward a goal of 1,000 completed acts of gratitude. Actions might include thanking a veteran, helping a neighbor, reconnecting with a friend or expressing appreciation to a family member. Participants can report completed acts at https://thethanksgivingseason.com/thousand.

"I wanted to give Thanksgiving a soundtrack people can make part of their traditions," said Ward. "This challenge offers an exciting way to put gratitude into action throughout November. Gratitude isn't just something you feel; it's something you do."

The initiative follows four steps: Think it. Promise it. Do it. Share it. Participants identify what they appreciate, choose an action, follow through and share what they completed.

One way to begin is through the Gratitude Tree activity. Participants write their intended action on two leaves. One is placed on a shared tree; the other is kept as a Promise Leaf to remind them to complete the action. A written promise begins the process; the challenge focuses on following through.

Building on last year's introduction of "It's Thanksgiving Y'all" and the Season of Givings concept, Ward has developed five original songs and accompanying guides. Four themes organize the season:

FriendsGiving, November 1–7: Friendship and connection.
VetsGiving, November 8–14: Appreciation for veterans.
FamGiving, November 15–21: Family relationships and traditions.
SoulGiving, November 22–28: Personal worth, reflection and kindness.

The songs include the overall anthem, "It's Thanksgiving Y'all," and four theme songs: "My Rolling Crew," "Service Never Ends," "Family Recipe" and "Celebrate You." Ward served 10 years in the U.S. Navy.

Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley has signed a proclamation naming November 1, 2026, as "The Thanksgiving Season: A Month of Gratitude, Connection and Service." It encourages participation throughout November and specifically references the four themes, Gratitude Tree and challenge.
